Paver patios, outdoor kitchens & landscaping in Largo

15 to 20 minutes from our Clearwater shop: practical, low-fuss yards for mid-century lots and HOA communities alike.

Largo sits just south of Clearwater, about 15 to 20 minutes from our Eastwood Dr shop depending on traffic, and its yards tend to need practical answers more than showpieces. That usually means a lawn that holds up to kids and dogs, beds that don’t need constant attention, a patio sized for real weeknight use, and an irrigation system that actually waters what it should.

It’s also a city with a lot of variety in a small area: mid-century subdivisions, waterfront streets on the west side, golf and HOA communities, and plenty of 55-plus and manufactured-home communities. We start every Largo project by finding out which of those you live in, because it decides what you’re allowed to plant and build.

The neighborhoods and their yards

Downtown Largo and the streets around West Bay Drive are mostly older single-family homes on modest lots. Shade trees there are often mature, and so are their roots. Beds have usually been compacted by decades of foot traffic and mowing. Turning over and amending the soil does more for these yards than another round of sod.

East Bay Estates and similar 1960s and 1970s subdivisions are classic ranch-lot Largo: a front lawn, a carport or garage, foundation shrubs, and a fenced back yard. Common jobs are a walkway to replace the worn path to the door, a first paver patio out back, and a front planting that no longer hides the windows.

Harbor Hills and the west-side waterfront are a different story. These streets back onto McKay Creek and Clearwater Harbor, and the 2024 hurricanes brought real flooding to low ground along the creek. Landscaping there needs salt- and flood-tolerant plants, careful grading so water drains away from the house, and attention to the 10-foot fertilizer-free buffer from seawalls and the water’s edge.

Bayou Club, Ridgecrest, and the many HOA and 55-plus communities in and around Largo have their own rules. Associations and park managers often control plant lists, hardscape colors, and who may work on site. We prepare drawings that can go straight into an architectural review. Florida law (s. 373.185, F.S.) protects your right to install Florida-friendly landscaping, but your HOA’s approval process still applies.

Soil, shade, and water

Largo is mostly inland, so salt spray is a concern only near the harbor. Soils are sandy and drain quickly. Older yards are often hard-packed, which keeps roots shallow and makes lawns thin out in summer. Shade from mature oaks is common in the older parts of town and limits where St. Augustine will grow. We plan turf for the sunny spots and use shade-tolerant beds and groundcovers under the trees. Our Florida-friendly plant guide lists options that hold up in Pinellas.

The Florida Botanical Gardens and the UF/IFAS Pinellas County Extension office share the Pinewood Cultural Park campus on Ulmerton Road in Largo. It’s a good free place to see Florida-friendly plants at mature size before you commit to a planting plan.

Local rules that affect Largo projects

  • Trees: Largo requires a tree removal permit for trees four inches or more in diameter and for palms over 4.5 feet tall. Removing dead, diseased, or invasive trees such as Brazilian pepper still needs a permit, but the city doesn’t charge for it. Replacement trees may be required. Trees in the public right-of-way belong to the city. We map trees during design so permits and replacements are part of the plan.
  • Water: Southwest Florida Water Management District’s Modified Phase III water shortage order limits lawn watering to one day a week. The District extended it in September 2026 through March 31, 2027. Your watering day depends on your address and on whether you’re served by Pinellas County Utilities or Largo’s reclaimed system. Check the current schedule; our watering restrictions guide explains how it works.
  • Fertilizer: Pinellas County prohibits nitrogen and phosphorus lawn and landscape fertilizer from June 1 through September 30, and limits phosphorus year-round unless a soil test shows a need.
  • Permits: Patios at grade are simple, but gas lines, new electrical circuits, and pergolas or shade structures generally require building permits through the city. We confirm requirements for each project.

What we build in Largo

Most Largo projects start with paver patios and driveways in Largo: a first patio out back, a walkway that replaces the worn path, or a paver drive to replace cracked concrete. Next come outdoor kitchens in Largo, often added onto an existing patio. We also install artificial turf for shady or high-traffic spots, plant flowers, shrubs, and trees, and build pergolas for shade. Maintenance is available as an add-on.

Starting small is fine. A scaled plan lets you build one phase now and add the next later without redoing work. Request a free on-site consultation and we’ll walk the yard with you.
